10 Skills To Teach The Kids During Lockdown

Perhaps the most ardent screen fiend will be itching to switch away from the laptop or TV and try something new with the lockout continuing until further notice. Most parents make great use of this imposed time at home to teach their children, and sometimes themselves, new lockdown skills … and here we’ve collected 10 skills to teach the kids during the lockdown.

Skills To Teach The Kids During Lockdown

With the children out of school, you have the ideal opportunity to teach important life skills to your children that might not be taught within the classrooms. Think about cooking, gardening, crafts, and, most importantly, how to change a tire! Here are 10 life skills to teach the kids and how you can integrate the lessons from everyday life into your lockdown routine.

1. Make a schedule

It refers specifically to children older than 4 years. The secret to this is a normal routine and rhythm. This doesn’t mean you need to play the strict parent but it can be very nice for kids to get up at a respectable time of day and adopt a fair schedule. If you have a home-school (well done, by the way!) you should try to do it every day at the same time. Chat with your kid(s) about the plan so they understand. Needless to say, there is no one-size-fits-all way for any kid to plan. “Some children find protection on a timetable, some are flourishing on a children’s free-flow method, but all children need some foresight in their lives.”

2. Cooking

The lock-down time is necessary to teach children how to eat healthy food. Involve them in the preparation of dinners by mentioning their favorite foods or cuisines. One good way to inspire kids to conquer the kitchen is to give them their own recipe book. This could be something that you buy online or a special book of the ancient recipes from Granny. Invite children also to support you with kitchen activities, such as chopping vegetables or sauce ingredients. Don’t forget the right knife skills to teach them to prevent injuries!

3. Gardening

Mulching your soil, transplanting plants, and watering your garden get the kids involved. Research has shown that certain motor-neuron benefits are due to playing in the mud and having a little dirt on your palms. So, bring out the wellington boots for your child and let them discover the garden and explore new worlds. Make garden fairy and gnome stories if you need to, but make it so enjoyable.

4. DIY Crafts

You may ask, are arts and craft a true skill in life? The answer is yes. Learning a skill in craftwork at a young age not only helps children develop healthy interests but can also be recreated later in life as a way of earning additional income. Additionally, it’s a wonderful opportunity to teach your child how to crochet, knit, sew, or sculpt. You may want to spend more time during this period on creative education for your kids. These skills are often the first to be overlooked in overburdened school systems, but they do play a critical role in the mental health of young people and the ability to express themselves with confidence.

5. Tinkering

Dads, this one’s addressed to you. Teach your children how to repair them! This will save them not only money in the future, but it is a profoundly personal present to give your family. Don’t let your creativity stop because you’re blessed with the ability to detach anything and bring it together better than new. Start the basics – how a tire or lightbulb can be changed. If you tend to be interested, proceed to greater DIY tasks. They could be your right-hand man or woman!

6. Decision-making

Growing up as an adult means that we need to make different choices in the various phases of life. As parents, we can’t always help our children make choices, so there must be some sort of responsibility for them.

How about instilling the ability to make the right choices in your child at an early age? Offer them a situation and ask them to choose between two things. Direct your kids through the cycle by comparing the pros and cons before they can make any decisions. Encourage them to think, seek second opinions, if in doubt, and let them know that they have to bear the effects of their choice (good or bad). We know this is hard, but it’s going to be easier over time.

7. Basic Housekeeping Skill

One wants housekeeping skills to keep the house clean and tidy from making the bed to laundry. Many university students find it challenging to arrange their rooms as they step out of their comfort zones – home. This is because most parents do it all too often for their kids that the kid doesn’t have to participate.

This should not really be the case and it can also be easily solved by involving them in basic household activities, such as plying the blankets, returning the stuff to their home, folding clothes, and everything suitable for their ages. Teach now, until it is too late, these skills! Is it not nice if a different helping hand would be present in the house?

8. Taking Challenges

While parents can not completely monitor your children’s lives, they will also be able to instruct your children on how to deal with problems and failures.

Offer your child an age-appropriate challenge, it might go cycling or attempt to complete a variety of tasks on its own. Seek not to move in though it’s tempting. Instead, teach them that nobody is flawless, that failure is reasonable, and that they should learn from errors. Encourage them again to try to cultivate an attitude of growth. One who feels it’s all right to try several times before bearing the fruit of success.

9. Communication

Your children can communicate plainly and confidently with great communication abilities. These skills help them feel more confident in social situations in which interactions with peer groups and new friends can be made easier.

Parents at home will help children develop these skills by allowing them to talk to you-to express the emotions and the thoughts they have. At the same time, parents can always hear and be open to all forms of emotions, including rage, excitement, disappointment, apprehension, and anxiety.

10. Time Management

Admit it or not, because of poor time management it is impossible for most of us to monitor and keep up with the schedule. Late work, sleep, and procrastination is the most visible examples. In fact, with regular practice, you can handle your time better over time. Parents should encourage their children to prepare and arrange their schedules for themselves and track them every now and then in order to foster good time management.

These are 10 skills to teach the kids during the lockdown.

Teaching this basic skill lets your child become more responsible and self-employed. They don’t encounter any issues because of these talents in their adulthood.
