27 Weeks Pregnant: What To Expect?

Say goodbye to the second trimester already because this is the last week of the sixth month and the last week of the second trimester. 27 weeks pregnant is five months and four weeks pregnant.

Baby’s Growth During Pregnancy – Week 27

At 27 weeks, a baby is breathing (amniotic fluid, not air). They are and even showing brain activity.

A substance called surfactant is starting to coat the inside of your baby’s lungs. This is an important development, as the surfactant stops the airways and air sacs from sticking together. This will allow the sacs to inflate with air once he’s born.

Your baby can now open and close their eyes, and they sleep and wake at regular intervals. Want to know something amazing? Your baby may even start dreaming around now.

What is the Baby’s Size?

At 27 weeks pregnant, a baby is as big as a head of cauliflower. The average 27-week fetus measures 14.4 inches and weighs 1.9 pounds. Your baby is not just getting bigger but they are also getting smarter.

27-week Symptoms of Pregnancy

  • Backaches

It is a side effect of hormones. To ease the pain a little, try to make some time for low-impact exercise. Sit and stand up straight and make sure you regularly stretch your body.

Your uterus has started pressing on your intestines now and the result is bad. You should load up on fiber-rich foods and drink lots of water to keep things moving.

All the pressure that the baby is putting on your lower half can cause this and you will have to pay frequent visits to the washroom.

  • Leg cramps

Cramps can be a sign of dehydration. It is a reminder to keep yourself hydrated and carry water everywhere.

  • Snissing

This one is embarrassing. It is what we call peeing when you sneeze. Baby is putting a ton of pressure on your bladder and there’s not much you can do about it except take frequent stops to empty your bladder. To avoid any embarrassing situation, you can maybe wear a pantiliner.

27 weeks pregnant belly

At this stage, you may notice your breasts are changing as the areola grows bigger, and you may also have lucid dreams and mood swings.

You’re probably feeling a ton of kicks inside that 27 weeks pregnant belly and twice as many if you are 27 weeks pregnant with twins. You may even feel tiny hiccups. But for now, sit back and enjoy the kicks and jabs. Maybe from next week, you can start counting kicks to make sure baby seems consistently active.

Check with your doctor for your weight gain records and maintain as the doctor advises.

27 Weeks Ultrasound

If your pregnancy has been uncomplicated so far, you probably won’t have a prenatal appointment or a 27 weeks pregnant ultrasound. Although starting next week, you will visit the doctor twice a month or every two weeks.
