Easy ways to get your new-born sleep quickly

new-born sleep quickly

There are all sorts of reasons why your baby may be waking through the night. She may need a feed, she may want your comfort and reassurance during the night, or she may benefit from a more consistent bedtime routine to help her settle. Teething can also upset your baby’s routine and sleep patterns.

It is common for babies to wake through the night for many months even for apparent reason. You might have to try something new if you are getting troubled with the night-time interruptions. You have to be consistent about this pattern you make with your baby.

Some of these tricks are:

  • Swaddle

It is common in almost all babies to possess a startle reflex, in which they feel as if they are falling. This may continue from the baby’s birth to about next four to five months. This falling sensation may cause jerking movements which will lead to an interruption in the baby’s sleep.

To avoid just interruptions which is breaking your and your child’s sleep, you can try to keep a tight swaddle. The swaddle will prevent the baby from startle themselves awake. They will be able to sleep better and longer.

You can buy a swaddle that is available in stores or online. For a much traditional approach, you can even make a swaddle out of a baby blanket. Follow the rules in the video for better understanding.

  • Use white noise

Babies may have trouble sleeping while there is outside noise in the room or house. You can maybe place a fan on low speed in the baby’s room. Don’t Put the fan anywhere near the baby. The fan must not blow directly into the baby’s sensitive ears.

You can use white noise which is the best alternative for fan. The baby is used to constant sounds. Some babies sleep better with the white noise machine. If you don’t want to buy a machine, you can record the noise and turn it on for your baby every time they have trouble sleeping.

Some sleep sounds are also easily available online. Check this out:

  • Massage

You can involve your child in different activities before they sleep. They can play around or you can read a story book to them. But some children are noted to sleep faster when they enjoy a good 15 minutes massage before they sleep.

You can try massaging your baby with baby oils and apply moderate pressure to make them calm. This will help them sleep faster.

  • Security object

At around six or seven months the baby starts to recognize the separation from their mother. To make them feel calm and comfortable, you can put a familiar object on their cot. Before keeping the toy in your baby’s cot, you can keep it with you to make it smell like you which will help your baby to sleep with comfort. Babies usually have a strong sense of smell and your familiar smell in the middle of the night will provide comfort to the baby.

You must remember, it might not be safe to put a comfort object with babies who are under 6 months.

  • Let your baby sleep alone

You have to give your baby a chance to fall asleep on their own. You might be scared to do it at first but it will be good in the long run. You can start doing this after six weeks as your baby’s ‘sleep-wake cycle’ starts developing then which then helps to regulate their sleep.

You must try to put your baby on their back while they are not entirely asleep. This will end up as a signal for their bed time and they will help themselves fall asleep. Feeding or rocking your baby to sleep may make the baby depend on such things for sleeping.

You must know that there is no hard and bound rule to follow any one method. Every child is different. Maybe one aspect of a particular method may seem effective for your child and that’s okay. You have the freedom to observe and look what suits them the best.
