While cartoons can affect children in many ways, they can have negative consequences for the behavior and development of children. Here are the various negative impacts of cartoons on children.

1. Violence

Watching cartoons depicting violence can make children violent in real life. Children may also believe that nobody gets hurt or pain as cartoons escape from violence or an accident. For instance, Tom and Jerry’s characters, The Road Runner, Oggy, and the Cockroaches are often hit or falling high and often with no real consequences.

2. Misleading role models

Young minds are quite impressive and the cartoons shown are international cartoon series with a gadget or robotic characters. These characters are being idolized by kids, and they want a super gadget hero. They start to believe that they do things with gadgets and become lazy.

3. Bad language

For children who take cartoons, it is easily acceptable. The voices of Bollywood villains are multiplied by Oggy and cockroaches. I am shocked by the vocabulary used and the techniques used in the show, and I wonder if only the right audience was targeted? Nobody will like to watch a tussle between a cat and a few cockroaches.

4. Unsocial Behaviour

Many cartoons encourage anti-social actions and give children misleading messages. There are also cartoons containing sexual innuendos, promoting aggression, and encouraging bratty conduct. This can affect the behavior of your child and make him think aggressive, corrupt, or violent.

5. Disobedience and insensitivity

The cartoons have yet another side effect. Shin-chan is the rude and most undisciplined kid. He is still up to parents with disobedience and often children forget about teen disobedience

6. Health problems because of a sedentary lifestyle

Inactivity and a sedentary lifestyle can cause too many hours of sitting before screen watched cartoons to pose several health problems. Obesity, vision, and nutrient shortcomings due to poor eating habits are some of these.

7. Lack of Empathy

Several cartoons exhibit characters showing rude or disobedient behavior towards their teachers and elders. Children can imitate this behavior and challenge parents or teachers if they are disciplined for bad conduct.

Remember kids absorb all they see and hear. Yeah, those “cute characters in the cartoon” could become monsters.

Seeing your children’s cartoons will enable you to monitor their views and see their reactions to various events. It helps you to bind your child better. Knowing and interacting with their favorite cartoon characters lets you understand the way your child thinks and strengthens interaction with the kids.

3. Explain how Cartoons are different from reality

Explain your child’s difference between cartoons and reality. Tell your child what is harmful, reasonable, and unrealistic. You might explain to your child, for example, that while a character seems to have escaped after the violence, it is not the case in real life.

4. Do Not Let Them Eat Sitting In Front of the TV

Eating when watching TV or iPad is the setting for a lifetime of poor eating habits like binge food and fast food. When they are in front of a television, children sometimes appear to overeat. They also tend to make unhealthful food choices. Eat together as a family at the dining table, and do not watch TV for meals. This will help children focus on food and encourage them to eat nutritious food and stop eating when they’re full.

Cartoons can affect children in both a positive and negative way, depending on what type of cartoon they look at. You can make sure that your children are healthier and happier by reducing children’s screen time and encouraging them to go out and play. It is certainly helpful to follow the tips given to prevent negative effects on child development and behavior from cartoons.
